Home of Röntgen
The Utrecht Museum Quarter has a colorful medical history. The Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital was located here for example. But also the Willem Arntszhuis: an institution for mental health. Local residents have had to live for decades with this sad concrete giant.
Less well known is that the discoverer of X-rays lived in the Museum Quarter for some time. Wilhelm Röntgen rented a room (1862 – 1865) at the home of his chemistry professor Jan Willem Gunning there.
