Betje Boerhave/Grocer’s museum

Betje Boerhave/KruideniersmuseumNear one of Utrecht’s main squares (Neude) you will find the tiny Grocery Museum Betje Boerhaave. Those who manage to find the museum, will immediately notice how quiet it is on the small courtyard, despite its location in the heart of the city. The rush and bustle of Utrecht city center suddenly seems far away.

Betje Boerhaave was a grocer woman from the 19th century. The shop / museum was named after her and is furnished as was custom in that time period. The merchandise breathes antiquity as well: where else will you find exotic candy like ‘ulevellen’ and ‘polka chuncks’? The museum area is on the first floor and is free of charge.
